138 Thank You, 2020 – A Guided Meditation

2020 has been an incredible year of transformation for so many of us. It forced us to feel pain and loss and grief and loneliness and fear. It also has challenged us to adapt and be resilient – to find hope and joy in small places and to make active connection with people all over the globe. 2020 will be a year to remember. One that historians and scientists and activists will write about and study for generations. One our children will tell their children about.

So, for all the bad 2020 has provided, there was – I would argue – just as much good if you were committed to finding it. And in today’s very special episode, I guide you through a meditation on the year 2020. I lead you through thinking about all that was good about the year 2020, and help you process the challenges it left you with. It will allow you to find the gifts and set the foundations for an amazing 2021. There are also many journal prompts that you can utilize as you listen, and also to reuse all the time to help you find the joy in your day to day life.

I hope that this meditation proves helpful for you, and that it gives you some peace.

I wish you and your family and friends the best, safest, healthiest, most joyful new year celebration and year beyond. I pray that you continue to find the courage, passion, wisdom, strength, and connection that you uncovered this year.

Happy New Year, my love.

May 2021 truly be that for you: happy.

XO,

Carin

137 Empowering Girls as Leaders

Listeners often ask me how to empower their teens. This episode will get you on track. Because how do we make massive change in the world? We start with our young people. By empowering girls and teens with the ability to make change now, they can make a massive difference. In this incredible episode of the PurposeGirl podcast we talk all things girl power – why empowering young people as leaders matters, why girls and women are the leaders the world needs now, and how girls and women can rise up to make a difference right now. This generation is far more involved in issues related to politics, gender equality and racial justice than we were years so they allow us to believe that a better and brighter future is possible.

My incredible and inspirational guest is Melissa Kilby, the Executive Director of Girl Up (https://girlup.org/), the global leadership development organization transforming a generation of girls to be a force for gender equality and social change. Since 2010, Girl Up has developed 75,000 girl leaders in 120 countries and has raised more than $27 million for girls’ leadership programs and impact partners at the United Nations.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • The different barriers women and girls are facing all over the world – and we’re not just talking about being mansplained.
  • How this work is intersectional – and why it is so important to us.
  • The core issues within “gender and civic equality” that Girl Up aims to take on, and how they do so.
  • How to allow other women and girls to be our inspiration
  • The definition of Leadership
  • How to get your teens active and engaged
  • A piece of advice that Melissa shares that, if you listen to it each day, you will uncover and live in your purpose – guaranteed!

XO,

Carin

136 Feel Like You Have NO Time?

Ever feel like you have no time? No time to pursue a dream, no time to meditate, no time to even clean your house or shower? Me too. I am a busy mama and entrepreneur. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a good busy. It’s a busy I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. But damn, finding the time to do anything – like this podcast episode, for example – is really hard. But I did it – I brag.

Truth be told, I’ve had a lot of anxiety recently around getting it all done without compromising on anything. It feels like when I’m spending time with my son, Shay I should be writing newsletter copy and when I’m making a social media post I should be snuggling with Josh and when I’m finally making time for myself I should be literally anywhere else.

Of course, these shoulds don’t help, so I’m throwing them out. Ever since becoming a mom, I’ve had to learn how to spend my time – and my energy. I’m so not perfect at it, but in this episode, I share the tools I’m learning to make my precious time work for me.

Your time is precious, too. In this mini – episode, I talk all about:

  • The 4 Keys to Managing Time Well.
  • How to prioritize and make peace with what doesn’t get done.
  • How to take imperfect action
  • Time Suckers and how to avoid them.
  • How you can find grace for yourself and a big, virtual hug from me, to me, and to you.

Today, instead of beating myself up for all the things I haven’t done, I’m clear on priorities and taking imperfect action, and it feels so good. I’m also finding some extra space and love for myself because if I push myself too far, there will be no business, baby, hubby, friends, amazing life, or ME to love.

Enjoy this short-time-supporting episode!
